Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) staged sit-in outside of Provincial Election Commission on Tuesday to protest against the delay in the schedule of elections of Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of the local councils in Sindh particularly in Karachi and Hyderabad. The MQM had written a letter on Monday to the Sindh Provincial Election Commissioner on the subject. MQM demanded that reserved seats of local councils should also be filled forthwith.

"Sindh Government is plotting against the mandate of people given in Karachi to MQM," mayoral candidate of the MQM Waseem Akhtar lambasted. Speaking to the protestors, he said, Sindh Government was delaying the notification to validate the local council elections. "Sindh government is trying hard to bring PPP's men as Chairmen in at least three district municipal corporations in Karachi. For that they seek change of loyalty from some councillors," he claimed.

However, he said the government would never succeed in its nefarious plans. He said that the PPP's slogan 'Democracy is the best revenge' was a deceiving slogan because the PPP was a party of elite and feuds. Leader of opposition in Sindh assembly Khawaja Izhar Ul Hassan said that the Sindh government had impeded the smooth functioning of the election commission at the time of local councils elections. "Now PPP government hampers the election of city's Mayor and deputy Mayor in a bid to hijack certain DMCs," he said.
